Wisconsin (/wɪˈskɒnsɪn/) is a state of United Great Lakes. It is bordered by United States to the west, Lake Michigan to the east, Yooper to the north and Hadleigh to the south. Wisconsin is the seventh largest state by total area and it's also the sixth most populous state with over 5 million people. The state capital is Milwaukee which is also the largest city in the state.
Wisconsin's geography is diverse, with the Northern Highland and Western Upland along with a part of the Central Plain occupying the western part of the state and lowlands stretching to the shore of Lake Michigan .Most of Wisconsin is classified as warm-summer humid continental climate, while southern and southwestern portions are classified as hot-summer humid continental climate.
Wisconsin is known as leading dairy producers, particularly famous for cheese. Paper products, tourism, information and space technology are also major contributors to the state's economy.
Geography[]
Wisconsin shares borders with Michigan in the north, Illinois in the south and Iowa and Minnesota in the west. Part of the borders are Mississippi River and St. Croix River.
The warmest month of the year is July, when the average maximum temperature in Milwaukee is about 27°C. The coldest month is January, when the average temperature is -9°C.
Before over 80% of the state consisted of forests, but later, much of the forest was chopped down for cultivation or for settlements. Now forests make about 40% of the state area. Most common woods include maple, birch and oak.
Economy[]
In 2010 Wisconsin's gross state product was D 238 billion, making it the 3rd largest economy in the United Great Lakes. Wisconsin's largest employers in 2014 were Wal-Mart, University of Wisconsin–Madison and Dunbar Space Center.
The most important industry is the engineering and space industry. Wisconsin's agriculture focuses on dairy products and corn, most of which goes to feed. The most significant minerals are sand and gravel used as construction material.
There are total of 43 airports in Wisconsin, Milwaukee International Airport being the largest with 3.2 million passengers in 2016. Of the 14 ports, the largest are Ashland, Green Bay and Milwaukee.
Culture[]
Milwaukee is the center of cultural life in Wisconsin. The state capital offers symphony orchestras, operas and ballet. The Milwaukee Art Museum was founded in 1957. Numerous ethnic festivals are held throughout Wisconsin to celebrate the heritage of its citizens.
The most known sports team from Wisconsin include: Green Bay Packers in American football, Milwaukee Brewers in baseball and Milwaukee Bucks in basketball.
