  • The Second Italo-Abyssinian War rages on in the highlands of East Africa.
  • Nationalist sentiments spark in the Republic of Spain.
  • The Chinese Civil War continues to serve as an example of external powers influencing factions in a foreign state.
  • The 1936 Olympics are to be held in Berlin.

1936 would be the beginning of the end. New powers will rise unto the world stage and threaten the balance of the world. Communism. Fascism. It is only a matter of time before the light of democracy is smothered by a blanket of tyranny.

1940 Q1

After the deadline for the ceding of Danzig was surpassed, German destroyers fired shots at the city from the Baltic Sea, followed by an invasion of multiple divisions into Poland. "It is the decision of the Polish to bring this upon themselves", says Hitler. [Secret for USSR] Germany offers to divide Poland between the Baltic State, USSR and Czechoslovakia if possible. [End Secret]

Guerilla warfare is effectively born in the Invasion of Angola, as local insurgent forces lash out at Portuguese forces independent from the Angolan Army. Similar movements begin to surface in Mozambique. It is too early to speculate, but it seems they are directly funded by the large communist nation.

Japanese forces overrun the frontline of the Second Sino-Japanese War, renewing an offensive that has been left stagnating for months. Meanwhile the discord between the Kuomintang and CPC reaches a breaking point, but it seems the Kuomintang is set to win this round.

Communist and fascist insurgency takes root all over Africa and the Middle East, proving most troublesome in Egypt, East Africa, West Africa and European colonies in the Middle East.

All rebels in the Philippines are effectively crushed by the government and American reinforcements.

Insulam Commonwealth of the Philippines

  • Government : We thank Soviet and US help against the rebels. We officialy rename our nation to the Insulam Commonwealth, latin for island. We once again worry over Japanese aggression. [Secret] We suggest to the US that we fund and arm Chinese troops. We also propose to invade Japan to keep the fascist threat away. [Secret]." We rename Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao into Aquilo,  Medulla, and Auster.
  • Economy : We focus on rebuilding war-torn areas. We shift to partial mobilization. We change the currency from Philippine peso to Insulam dollars. Inflation remains high, yet we continue to find ways to decrease it. All civilians in the war-torn areas have been sent to refugee camps in the Metropolitan area. We ask the US for development aid.
  • Military : We send troops to help rebuild the war-torn areas. We prepare coastal and land defenses in the north in case of a Japanese invasion, which some politicians doubt are highly unlikely. We call it the Wall of Aquillo. We start aerial and naval patrols in the Aquillo Pacific Area.
  • Diplomacy : We thank the USSR and the US for its help. We worry over Japanese aggression towards China and maybe to the rest of Asia.

1940 Q2

German forces storm Western Poland, seizing several cities such as Poznan, Wroclaw and Danzig. Warsaw is expected to be taken in a few weeks, given current advancement. Hungarian troops begin facing border skirmishes with Romania, drawn into the war shortly after Germany moved their troops into Poland as per their alliance formed a few years back.

In a noticable trend, communism proves to be the most popular in South Africa, already seizing the interests of Angola and Mozambique, and now spreading to Bechuanaland, Rhodesia and parts of the Belgian Congo. Support for communism in the Union of South Africa have risen as well.

Fascism gains popularity on the other side of Africa, with movements such as the National Socialist Parties of Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria and the Levant forming in their respective locations. Italy has further capitalised on this, signing multiple trade deals with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran to gain their favour.

Naval clashes occur between Soviet and Portuguese ships off the coasts of Angola and Mozambique, but mostly go in favor of the Soviets, keeping the insurgents in Africa properly supplied.

Shanxi capitulates to the Japanese, marking the first of the Chinese nations to fall to the new Order in the East.

The United States stands firm with their isolationist policies.

France, standing with their decision to guarantee Poland's independence, declare war on Germany, but do not take the offensive by moving troops into the Rhineland and stay behind their Maginot Line instead. The United Kingdom follows shortly after, mobilising hundreds of planes to rule the skies and building up troops on the borders with Italian Libya and Italian East Africa.

    • Soviet Union: We are glad that you have opened your eyes now, we also appreciate your willingness to work together in these dark times.
    • Germany: The frog-eating French don't know what they're getting into. Perhaps we could join your alliance with Italy and help you out?

    • U.S.S.R: You may see our decision as foolish and ridiculous, but we have reasons. The people of Australia are bloodthirsty, disgusted, and desperate for change. They despised the government and despise it now. Maartenism and Communism clearly failed with the people, which is quite ironic come to think of it, since Maartenism and Communism are for the people. Maartens and I would not have wanted things to go this way, but alas, life is not like that, and so we must serve the people. Besides, Maartens is in a worse place now thanks to his great policy decisions (see events). I did not want to be on an opposing side of you U.S.S.R, but I serve the people, and the people want to fight with Britannia. Unfortunately, this may be the end of this relationship, but I still hope you realize that the dirty fascists are not a group to work with, and you'll perhaps reconsider working with us, even if we are not a lot you'd want to work with. Goodbye U.S.S.R. See you on the battlefield.
  • Events:
    • Maartens Investigation: On May 8th, a body was found a kilometre away from the Maartens' residence on a ditch, confirmed as George Maartens. It has been confirmed that Maartens commit suicide.
    • Public Hatred: Even more public outcry and hatred is aimed at the government. It is estimated that 87% of the population hates the establishments of both parties and the government. The only decision made by the government that seems to be popular with the public is the war.

  • Diplomacy:
    • Australia: Good luck serving as a slave of mr. Chamberlain, sir. It was nice doing business with you. See you on the battlefield.
    • Baltic State: When the Polish war is over, we would like to invite you to Brest to discuss a treaty of friendship and a possible partition of Poland.

My fellow comrades, there is a hour when you shall stand up against your oppressors! The hour is right now! Stand up against the imperialists, overthrow their might and pride, and establish a new world, a people's world! No longer shall you be oppressed! Oppressed inhabitants of the world, unite!"

1940 Q3

Poland faces invasions from all sides, who close in Warsaw and occupy the city. The Polish State is essentially defeated. Germany recommends that Warsaw is made a city-state to prevent any of the nations occpuying Poland from squabbling over it.

The Baltic State formally joins the Pact of Steel, as does Japan, while the Anti-Comintern Pact is dissolved in the light of their newfound friend in the Soviet Union. Japan and Germany sign agreements with the USSR to begin joint research programs.

Hitler addresses the people of Germany directly from the Reichstag, "I quote the genius of Lenin, that the gentle labourer shall no longer suffer. The German Reich is one that revolves around the very idea of the ingenuity and power of people, a thought shared by our fellow brothers in humanity in Moscow. We will bring about the New Renaissance, free from the oppression of the colonial empires and lush with the freedom of people everywhere!" Benito Mussolini delivers a speech similar in nature, but is noticably more directed to native Arabs and broadcasted as far out as Afghanistan.

The CPC and Japan sign a formal agreement to split China after the Second Sino-Japanese War is over. Meanwhile, the Kuomintang suffer losses almost everywhere on the front lines.

Japan begins moving their warships into combat with British and French vessels in the South China Sea, while bombing the Philippines.

Communist uprisings occur in French Indochina, led by the prominent supporter of communism, Ho Chi Minh.

France and the United Kingdom declare war on the Soviet Union in response to the latter's invasion of Poland, and by extension, the Comintern.

If anything, the Maginot Line of France is doing a good job at deterring German offensives along the Franco-German border.

1941 Q2

Balto-Swedish naval clashes become frequent in the Baltic Sea, and Gotland is captured by Baltic paratroopers. Sweden requests that Germany step in before more blood is shed. Germany responds with a proposal to cede Gotland and surrender control of the Baltic Sea to the Baltic Union, who has yet to respond to this.

A coup occurs in Greece, replacing the government with a fascist leadership that announces the return of the Hellenic Empire. Alexandros Koryzis calls for Yugoslavia and Bulgaria to return the provinces of Macedonia and almost all of Southern Bulgaria or else. A deal was also signed with Italy, promising Greece will not invade Albania.

Romania also falls victim to a coup, more for the safety of the regime than anything else, really. They announce that the old Romania is gone, and a new political system is in place. A combination of fascist and communist ideals more than anything, it is hard to say exactly which axis they belong to.

Italian forces build up on the Yugoslav border and are noted to be present along the Albanian border with Yugoslavia as well.

The Kuomintang manage to hold on in parts of southern and central China, losing the coast to Japan and the highlands to the CPC. It is now a matter of when the Chinese Republic will fall.

Uprisings in Saigon and Hanoi give the French a run for their money, as fierce fighting sweeps urban areas. Siam joins the offensive, invading and occupying territories in the Cambodian region.

Germany unveils plans to develop the world's first attack helicopter in defiance to Portugal. Project Motorfocke is underway, with the intention of showing just how innovative the Third Reich can be.

Zaolzie is considered to be territory ceded to Czecoslovakia after the Fall of Poland, and will remain as such.

The Western Front is at an Allied disadvantage. The Maginot Line was completely bypassed with German forces coming down on Paris like a hawk from occupied Belgium.

Italian troops fight alongside rebel forces in Egypt, French North Africa, Palestine, Syria and Iraq.

Fascists in Bulgaria and Turkey would both like to see the current government fall.

      • Events:
      • Baltic-Swedish war: The same 10,000 troops would guard the occupied Gotland. We would launch a second series of naval attacks to Sweden, specifically into the OsterGotland and Kalmar provinces in the Swedish mainland; Naval bombers would keep flying over the Baltic Sea, while regular fighters and bombers are sent to aid the army. Tanks would also be used.
