Turn XI: 850 BCE - 800 BCE[]

KdmTurn850b-800b

NPC Events:[]

  • Punicia: Punician merchants land on the eastern Italian shore and found the city of Qart-Hadast. They quickly expand along the coast entering deep into the Adriatic and thus become a counter balance to Rome.
  • Cannanites: Caananites rebel in the Levant and found the Kingdom of Iouresalem.
  • Arashena: Arashena expands into central Anatolia and even seize some of Vordalkein's eastern coast.
  • Doria: The Kingdom of Doria expands north along the Aegean coast.
  • Kiths: The Kith expand into central Iran creating a bulge in their borders.
  • Osnerol: The Kingdom of Osnerol is founded by the Olmecs.
  • Hellens: Hellenic pirates plague the Eastern Mediterranean.
  • Ugrians: They expand to the west and to the east.
  • West Diziliyans: With the surrounding nations becoming aggressive towards them and doing joint wars on WD tribes, they unite under one chief and overrun Ståkkårå, Skåne, Oslofjord and Northern Nordicium.
  • Sami: With the massive war down south, they decide to invade Northern West Diziliyan lands.

Kingdom of Rome[]

Rome 800 bc
  • Government: Despotic monarchy.
    • Kings of Rome: Eoguide II (867 BCE-845 BCE), Selu II (845-821 BCE), Argul (821-801 BCE), Aspor the Conqueror (801 BCE-present)
    • Roman Identity: The Roman identity is greatly expanded at the end of the ninth century BCE after the conquest of Emor (Brundisium). However many have began thinking of this city was never even Biatal and thinking if there were any repercussions to this. The navy is also being rapidly expanded over this part of the decade to prepare the invasion of Torrea in the mainland under the so-called proclaimed Aspor the Conqueror.
    • Outer Region Policy: In order to secure the Italian Peninsula as the Roman foothold, the southern part of Italy is being heavily focused being cored and administered autonomously with written records to ensure that they don't break away under the grip of the King of Rome especially after conquering another city.
  • Military
    • 800 spearmen
    • 500 swordsmen
    • 400 archers
    • 45 triremes and other ships that are capable of carrying archers with flame
    • 70 transport boats
    • 11 catapults (Yes, EoGuy totally did this not me, okay I did it but I swear EoGuy would do this)
    • Two ballistae
  • Economy: The economy is still heavily reliant on maritime trade but after securing so much coast, there should be enhancement of the navy and also to set foot on the islands of Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily. Importing a lot of works from other areas through words and even tablets also seem to slow down a lot after much influence had being took place in the Roman Kingdom that allowed a really separate but related culture to the Biatal itself.
  • Demographics
    • Population: 260,000
      • Rome: 20,000
      • Neapolis: 10,000
      • Tarentum: 10,000
      • Brundisium: 12,000
      • Rural areas: 208,000
    • Ethnicity: 18% Roman, 82% Biatal
    • Religion: 20% Cult of Romulus, 80% Biatal paganism
    • Literacy rate: 1.75%
  • Events
    • Ballista and the Iron Sword: As technology advances slow but prospering at a post-Bronze Age Collapse society, the iron sword and metalworking of iron has completely replaced almost all of bronze itself as knowledge of iron metalworking has spread throughout much of the Mediterranean part of the world. The ballitsa is also being replacing the conventional catapult although designs for it are much more clunky at this stage.
    • Conquest of Emor: In 813 BCE, King Argul had being told that Rome should press onto claiming the city of Emor which it seems to be far more civilised but is unclaimed by any large regional lord, king or anyone. They seem to be doing by themselves. However some Roman scholars that are emerging in this new era believe that Emor might be a descendant colony in theory according tot ales but Argul wanted to secure southern Italy for the Romans and unite the remaining Biatal under his rule. So King Argul sent a group of 2000 troops to besiege the city and created the first "legion" known in Roman history and quickly toppled the city over over the course of 12 years, even when Aspor had become king when Argul was killed during the battle, along with 700 soldiers that were deployed into the conflict to conquer the city for themselves.
    • Continued Assimilation: The assimilation of the Biatal culture continues through conversion of their own paganism, which in turn would help the typical Imperial cults that are surrounding the Mediterranean frequently.
  • Diplomacy

Vesnia[]

    • Devastation of København-Malmø: After the war, København-Malmø is devastated.
    • Expansion: We force our borders into what is the present day Malmö Metropolitan Area and stop there. We also heavily guard the border so no West Dizilyan troops can pass and invade.
    • Moving Capitals: We move our capital from København-Malmø to Ebsbjerg. This way, the population here starts booming.

Kingdom of Rome[]

Rome 750 BC
  • Government
    • Kings: Aspor the Conqueror (801 BC - 772 BCE), Nacotus (772 BC - 761 BCE), Harronium Kelios (761 BC - present)
    • Roman Identity: The identity is fully solidified at that time with the unification of the Biatal tribes and the eradication of the Lecis through strait hopping. The Biatal culture, however, needs to be fully assimilated into this newly mixed culture of Romans which is continuing to grow due to an imperial cult in place for generations, with a goal to unite the Italian Peninsula soon.
    • 763 BCE Uprising and Death of the King with no Sons: The 763 BCE Uprising was an event where King Nacotus was becoming increasingly incapable and with the fact he had no sons, their chance to put in a pretender that claims that there should be a voting system in place to be who's leader rose in few cities. This delayed much of the naval expansion entirely. By 761 BCE, Nacotus died and the uprising which is mainly in the east continued. In Rome, a debate happens whether his succession should be handed over to his brother who bears sons and that the linear system should be reworked. Eventually Harronium Kelios was selected and he crushed the uprising in the east by arresting hundreds then boiling them to death while some escaped and established their own republic (which functions like democracy) on the east by fleeing through boats in an attempt to 'get revenge'. Harronium took the matter of uprisings seriously and began effectively centralising power to Rome and ramped up severity of capital punishment to make sure no-one dissidents.
  • Military: The navy is rapidly expanded while the number of soldiers are increased under Harronium Kelios through conscription of young men.
    • 1200 spearmen

      • Rome: 35,000
      • Neapolis: 17,000

    • Religion: 40% Cult of Romulus, 60% Biatal paganism
    • Literacy rate: 1.6%
  • Events
    • End of the First Roman Expansion: Expansion stopped for a while after Aspor the Conqueror occupied a majority of the remaining 'native Italic peoples'. Harronium Kelios had decided to make an effort to centralise all power and authority to Rome to get the grip of newly acquired land after the 763 BCE uprising.
    • Threats of the East and West: Aspor and Harronium Kelios have being threatened by both sides, in which were powerful in the seas itself. In order to counter that power in the local region of Italy and reduce threat level over the next few years, Harronium Kelios after suppressing the unrest in the eastern part of Rome commissioned dozens more ships, including larger boats that can ram ships by using mechanical methods to crush one ship down.
    • A Pretender Rises: The young pretender began to rise in popularity in the mid-8th century BCE. Popularity began on 750 BCE in east Rome where he believed the corruption of Harronium Kelios is high and must be taken down. Next turn will be something much more larger.

    • Ruler: George the Founder (809 BCE - 785 BCE), Stephen the Wise (785 BCE - 764 BCE), Emeric the White (764 BCE -)
    • Transformation of government: In 812 BCE, one of the fifteen tribal communities of Esceosians, the Kos tribe begins to wander back to their homeland, mixing with Illyrics and the Bonra people, eventually settling down in 800 BCE on the southern part of Lake Balation, founding the city of Eskos, claiming it to be the capital of the newly formed Kingdom of Esceosia. George, the founder of the new nation begins to consolidate his power, crushing other leaders, eventually becoming King.
    • Identity of Esceosians: Ancestors of Esceosians dreamed of eventually unifying the fifteen tribes, but as George still doesn't have enough power to do that, he establishes a new Esceosian identity, one of the Kingdom's, which descends from the tribal groups of Esceosians, but is not the same. While the new Esceosian identity is still pure, not many consider themselves part of it. After George's death, the legacy of establishing a new identity is continued by his son Stephen, who begins the assimilation of Illyrics and Bonrans inside the country to the new culture. His efforts are a wide success, but the biggest change comes from Stephen's son, Emeric, who is of mixed Illyric and Old Esceosian descent, which gives him support from both Old Esceosians and Illyric Esceosians as well.

  • Wars and Conflicts:
    • West Dizilyan Tribes: Our priority lies in holding the line, so most of our forces are lead to the frontline and set up defensive stances. Counterattacks are also used to drive the invasion forces out and gradually push the enemies back. After succeeding in holding the line, we are working on trying to push through enemy lands, but with caution.

  • Economy: Wooden tablets are still in use. But scrolls are making their way about for recording and keeping track of wooden tablets much more closely due to inflation.
  • Population: 25 million (Due to high infant mortality in ancient times, birth rates became high as it is a gamble for babies to live past the age of 5. An average family of the Feng dynasty holds two or three surviving children per household who lived to see adulthood. Not to mention immigration of several dozen families into urban cities. The Chinese dynasty oversaw recent acquisitions coupled with a growing population caused a boost in pop. but fertility rates are slowing down)

  • Wars and Conflicts:
    • Conquest and Expansion of Territories: The Feng dynasty has made efforts to expand into the Shen Rei? territories.
  • Events:
  • Rise of Yin and Yang: Feng succession rules state that the oldest child shall inherit the throne. However, Yin was born first over Yang out of the twins in 843. Growing up together, Yin was held in higher beauty to those around her. Yang was handsome, but he was fairly average. The twins through out the years had attempted to out do the other. With Yin using her beauty to gain influence while Yang worked hard to earn his place amongst the court. The Feng emperor, realizing his children's quarrel could lead to  a civil, decided to make an exception to the law, where Feng's land would be divided along north and south upon his death. The North would be Yin, and South would be Yang. On 802 bc, the Feng Emperor's death caused a split, but it wasn't that he envisioned equally. One general refused to join Yin's side, preferring Yang's as he earned the general's respect. The two sides were at peace but were inching towards conflict over the course of generations.

    • Conquest of Northern Italy: The moment of conquering the Italian peninsula and subjugate the whole of Italy under Rome is now underway as peaceful expansion was finally considered over. Torrea was the first target and easier since the Qusi were colonisers with fortifications potentially tearing down a single Roman army and that Torrea is a localised enemy. The Roman Army swiftly takes over their colony in the Italian peninsula and quickly built up fortifications and killing those who try to flee from the Roman Kingdom.
    • Naval Power: This is where navy comes in. Because Torrea would likely and potentially respond with refugees fleeing to their island, the Roman fleet expands under the guidance of Harronium to prevent Torrea from doing a naval counterattack and become distracted with multiple ships from the Roman Kingdom. Harronium II, the son of Harronium I also began planning out an invasion of Corsica as well in the near future after conquering their foothold in the Italian peninsula.
    • Pretender seizes Sicily (didn't put it on the map, but whatever I'll do it): The well-known pretender from the last few decades rose up as King Harronium Kelios took his army to take over the colony of Torrea in the Italian peninsula and prepare a naval invasion to seize Sardinia and Sicily when all of a sudden, a pretender takes over Syracuse and much of Sicily and proclaimed Kingdom of Sicily. Lack of effective defensive management had led to this happening. However, Harronium's son had also prepared for a naval invasion on three islands and prevented the pretender from moving across the strait to the Italian Peninsula by tearing down any of his transport ships and soldiers going across it.

    • The rise of Kyiv. Kyiv is keeping growing fast and has become a very important trade centre. Lutsk and Pripyat are becoming less important and less major. Many people say, that Kyiv can replace Lutsk soon.
    • The great library of Vedena. In Lutsk, few mercenaries decided to build a place, where all knowledge will be contained. The construction will begin soon in Lutsk.
    • The start of city specialization. With the growth of Vedena as an empire, there are lots of different cities. It is becoming more efficient to be specialized in some sphere. For instance, Lutsk is the main political and scientific powerhouse, Pripyat and Kyiv are specialized in trade and Volodymyr is becoming a cultural centre.
    • Slow down of the population growth.  With the climate is becoming colder, the population is starting growing slower because of food. The city population is still growing from rural areas, but it is slowing down too.
    • The masterpiece of ancient urbanism.  Some people may think that the population of cities is too big. But to be fair, the cities in Vedena are not that urban and densely populated. Frankly speaking, the city has a city centre and little neighbourhoods around it. Usually, every family has a little house and a proper farm to grow their own food. Intelligency lives in elite neighbourhood close to a city or in a city centre.

  • Wars and Conflicts:
    • Hjaltland: Chief Gwrtheyrn and his son Fionnghan were invited to a feast in Jarvik. They politely attended, where Fionnghan, a rash and a bit childish young man, fell in love with the Hjaltlands chiefs daughter, who fell for him in return. She snuck away on a boat with Fionnghan to Kaledon. 13 years later, when Fionnghan had become the chief, a group of Hjaltlandian merchants traveled past andhad a feast with the elders of the Caledoni. After the feast they stole Fionnghans sister, and fled to Hjaltland. Fionnghan was furious, and set out on a warpath, invading southern Hjaltland up to the Loch Ness, where advancement was halted until reinforcements would come to a sufficient number to overrun mainland Hjaltland. Due to low fertility rates amassing an army was slow, so much so that Ualraig, the son of Fionnghan continued his fathers hold on the lake of Loch Ness.
  • Military: The druids are like war drummers, the soldiers believe that their magic works, and their presence invokes fear in the enemies, even though their magic doesn’t actually work. Ships are fishing or trade ships refitted for transporting troops.

    • Cultural Evolution: The Caledoni culture is based around nature and it’s gifts, but as a Druid called Gwainyth from the western wilderness arrived, he created a heavily ritualistic religion around the nature, water and stars. Caledonian Druidism as it was called spread like wildfire, with rituals being devoted for the nature and stars taking place weekly, being a sort of party. This heavily changed the classic life of Caledonians, as the rituals became a label of their culture.

  • Events
    • Conquest of the Nuragian Nation: The nation of Marroca, known for its barbaric pirate raids in the past has been invaded by the Roman Kingdom in a bid to strengthen their acts against the Carthaginian enemy in the east (the fact that Creator did Carthage in Phoenician makes it too ironic). Their fleet had been weakened over the few course of years and their foothold in Sicily had been taken by the Romans. Then finally, the time for the conquest of the final island of the Roman Kingdom's goals on 730 BC, swiftly over the course of twelve years, the island of Sardinia is finally under control of Rome, ending the course for the Marrocan civilisation as we know it.
    • Preparations: Big preparations are made for the invasion of the east. Many skeptics believe that Carthage is a bigger enemy to fry. Perhaps they would also fight back for viciously, so the King of Rome promised to prepare for 60 years with his heir and his grandsons as well should a battle take place before they would empower. The power of ships is also being handled by diverting half of the fleet to the east.
    • A Full Roman Identity: Say goodbye to the Biatal primitive culture. By the end of the century, the Roman culture has fully evolved.
