The Mapping Community, often abbreviated as TMC, was group of mappers on google plus which at its height had over 1,700 members. The Mapping Community was the largest group of mappers on Google+, and was the largest gathering of mappers ever on the internet, the community currently has 1,500+ members.

History[]

Creation[]

On google plus there were two large communities for mappers. The Community for Mappers led by Super LV, and the Mappers Union which was led by Saxon Mapping. The mappers had a vote in August about uniting the communities and after the vote they merged on August 21st, 2016.

The Bat Raids[]

In July 2017 a mapper called Ultraman Mapping made a Google+ community for mappers called the Bat Mapping Community. He gathered trolls on the community, and then made them spam TMC through out most of September, at the end of September Ultraman became bored of spamming TMC and moved on to raiding and spamming other communities.

1st Civil War[]

In December a controversy began surrounding Romanian Mapping. Many users disliked Romanian Mapping and this made Romanian Mapping fans bitter at the Mapping Community, The few fans of Romanian Mapping on The Mapping Community decided to secede by forming there own Google+ Community called The Romanian Mapping fan club. The Romanian Mapping fan club then spammed The Mapping Community until The Mapping Community reported them to google+ and had the group deleted and the users account banned. The event became known as The Mapping Community Civil War and lasted for the first 3 weeks of December.

The Ultraman Mapping raids[]

A user called Ultraman mapping was satire throughout his trolling, however, some people coudn't tell. He trolled the mapping community and was banned after a few days. In response he made joined a community called The Bat Mapping Community and with amny people like him. The community was made September 21st, 2016 and grew to 100 members in 10 days. In early October The Bats spammed and trolled TMC and this went on for the entire month October because whenever an account got banned they trolls would make a new account. In early November the troll attacks began to slow as they became bored of what they were doing, but occasionally of The Bats will show up and attack TMC.

2nd Civil War[]

In early August, 2016. An argument began over whether or not circle tool should be used to make countryballs. The small argument quickly escalated. The hatred of circle tool mostly came from the fact Romanian Mapping used circle tool to make his countryballs and this made users see circle tool countryballs as lazy and low quality. Users started to want circle tool mappers to be banned, and so circle tool mappers seceded The Mapping Community and Formed The Pro Circle Tool Leauge or PCTL. PCTL Then spammed The Mapping Community and caused large amounts of trouble until Scottish Mapping III made a post letting all circle tool mappers join the community as long as they didnt cause any drama, any sign in drama would result in a ban, the PCTL was also dissolved.

1 Day Rebellion[]

On August 17, 2017. Cube Mapping made a blog post where he talks about how corrupt, unfair, and rude the moderators are. He didn't want to secede from The Mapping Community, he thought that it just needed to change.

" Remember when this community was good? Well, I do. I joined in july 2016 and then this community had 100 or 200 members. Everyone could share what they wanted and there was no drama and bullying. Fast forward a year and a month, and this happened. Now, we have shitty oppressive rules that benefit the mods more that the members. The members now have to almost worship some of the mods in order to not get banned. They don't care what the members think but what they think. Banning stuff like memes, unrelated polls and countryball stickers over bullying and harassment is preposterous. There is a rule to respect the mods. Well here is what some of the mods do. They delete posts they don't like even though they don't break any rules. They blame google for deleting the post to cover their asses. They swear to, bully and harass other members (Super LV saying to someone their map is "fucking terrible") (Many cases of Quisa and Proxima doing the same thing) Then they openly criticise other members for bullying and harrasment, and without banning those who actually do those things They ban people for the smallest, least serious shit As you can see, the biggest problem in this community are the mods. And if the mods expect to be respected, then I expect them to respect us back. And since that's not happening (for some of them), then i have something to say: Some of the mods are fucking terrible. They can be complete idiots and morons. How many times did they deserve to be banned but they were not because they are mods. Ban me if you want, you're just proving my point. You don't let members have a voice. Any criticism is met with deletion of the post or a ban. Some of you are a bunch of idiots and douchebags. If only we could have LV, Welsh, Aen, maybe Imperial and Caritasi (he was a very good mod). I have an opinion, and i expect to be able to say it. You may agree, you may not agree, that is your business. But i think we can all agree that some of the mods are idiots. It has come to the point that we have to tag a mod and say "no ban, please" so they know we're ironic, or we're joking or we just want to post something funny without being fucking banned. I hope this community gets fixed and if some of you want to ban me for what i said, you're proving my point. And if i have to respect you, then you have to respect me. And obviously you don't respect any of us so i don't respect any of you. (I don't respect any of the bad mods, I always used the phrase "some of the mods" because some of them are actually good.) " - Cube Mapping.

The blog post riled up most users and they began to make posts talking about their anger with things the community had done. Bristolian Mapper started #ChangeTMC which many users spammed across the community. The chaos made Super LV take notice and to stop the users from rioting he made Cube Mapping a mod because he was the one who started the rebellion. Super LV realized he would make the protesters happy if Cube Mapping became a moderator.

Decline[]

In October the community had a crisis, the owner LV had quit mapping and became inactive on TMC. Without a strong figurehead, the community quickly became unstable. None of the mods could do anything without the owner despite attempts to put popular staff like Platine in power. After 10 days of the ownership crisis, on October 10, 2017, LV deleted TMC after little over 1 year of being a community. Many splinter groups were formed during this Crisis but the main successor was The Mapping Union.

Resurrection[]

The Mapping Union (TMU) and Mapperverse united on November 21, 2017 to resurrect The Mapping Community. Mapperverse and TMU did this so that they could centralize google+ and make google+ less chaotic and bring an end to all the conflicts.

Administration[]

The Mapping Community has 16 active moderators, the active moderators in random order are:

  1. Diamel Mapping
  2. Korean Mapping
  3. Platine
  4. Ankhor
  5. Imperialis
  6. Wakean Mapping
  7. Epirus
  8. Proxima
  9. CheezeWafflz Mapping
  10. Sapphire Mapping Productions - SMP
  11. Dino Mapping Productions
  12. Radiant Mapper
  13. CJets
  14. Quisa
  15. Obscurium
  16. Buckeye Mapping
  17. Scottish Mapping III

There are also retired Moderators, the retired moderators in random order are:

  1. Saxon Mapping
  2. Dylans World
  3. Welsh Mapping
  4. Cube Mapping
  5. LV
  6. Northern Mapping
  7. Aen
  8. Imperie
  9. Swedish Mapping
  10. Imperial Mapping

The Administration later dropped elections in late 2016. Super LV stated soon after the foundation of The Mapping Community " this isn't a country it's a g+ page, therefore democracy is literally the dumbest thing we could do to this, i know what i'm doing and shall continue to do so etc." This was said when Super LV and Platine stopped elections 2 months into the community’s creation, he thought they only caused drama and he decided that only the current moderators would stay moderators until they retired and that only active moderators could make users moderators (this act was apparently similar to the reasoning of the TFOE Wiki Administration years earlier, despite never having a democracy, they established that direct elections would only cause drama and corruption). Although this decision was criticized as a "Military Junta" by some, the moderator Platine stated himself at one point "The Mapping Community is a Military Junta."

Corruption[]

There was a large amount of corruption in TMC. A few days before TMC was deleted, Platine and Northern held a poll to decide who would be the new owner for TMC. It was between Scottish Mapping III, Imperialis and Obscurium. The poll was deleted when Imperialis started winning, Platine stated that Scottish Mapping III was never supposed to win in a leaked skype message. The mods also made a junta to keep their power and control over the community.

Demographics[]

The Mapping Community is a gathering of mappers from across the world, and as a result there is a large amount of ethnic, religious, and political diversity. This has been documented in the mapping census.
